June 1 Arrows of the Almighty Do Not Be Afraid
“In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalms 56:11) I laughed when pastor shared this story with me and I thought I would share with you here: Our pastor Obed Orozco was scheduled to minister in Houston. As he boarded the plane in Tucson he was surrounded by six Arabs clad in their traditional turbans and burkas. The people on the plane, obviously very worried, watched them and murmured together. To Obed’s surprise they were all seated around him on the plane as well. He spoke to them asking where they were from and the man next to him thanked him for speaking to him explaining that they were Iraqi students at the University of Arizona. With that, the people on the plane seemed even more shaken and worried. When the plane took off there was the typical Arizona hot air turbulence and the plane started shaking, the Arabs all grasped the seats in front of them with white knuckles and great concern on their faces. To this Pastor said, “Well, I see you are not terrorists because you are afraid to die.” The people around chuckled and the acceptance broke the fear and concern on that plane and the flight was taken with a greater amount of relaxation. Pastor told them of his ministry and the church inviting them to come for a visit. The Iraqi man asked if they would really be accepted. Pastor said, “Yes.” I hope they do come. We have believers from many different cultures at “Grace to the Nations” and I am sure they would be received. It turns out that the Iraqis raise sheep and goats north of the city and they invited Pastors Obed and Rae to a goat barbeque at their place. An invitation which they gladly accepted. When we trust in God, fear can find no place to abide; for as scripture assures us, perfect love casts out fear and the source of perfect love is God Himself and not from you and me. “Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.” (Proverbs 3:25-26) comments: Jim, this is such encouraging news. I pray the Iraquis do come to GFTN.
